I just read your post aloud to Steve and your parents over breakfast in their condo in STX. I recently fell down the stairs at home and walked away with a few scratches. The big difference is how you land and what you land on, I guess. I'm so sorry about your knee problems. Be sure to request an upgrade from the surgeons (v1.2)!

I don't know if you remember me. I was an HNP friar in our then mission in Coroico from '74 - '87. Almost 6 of those years were in Caranavi, Nor Yungas. The present bishop of Coroico, Juan Vargas was one of our catechists. Satipo is probably hotter still but not by much. In my present position, I have July & August off - I work with young people in a mostly Spanish speaking school district. Now, I am even more fluent in Spanish (helping to translate educational documents both ways.). I have known and worked with Bif since 1962 - I was a year behind him, both of us "barn rats". My heath is still excellent. If I could help with your volunteers, or otherwise, with my time there next summer, please let me know.

haha, Larry. Don't worry about the younger friars. They typically get 40 aspirants and end up with one solemnly professed. Bolivia is full of ex-friars. They are quite used to that. :)

Sorry to hear of your troubles.
Vianney Justin & I were in Caranavi together back in the 70's. Trouble there was too many got sick and had to go back to the States (Including Vi.)
I then spent 4 years in Apolo but they could never get anyone within 30 years of my age to live there ... or that believed in VII or Puebla.

If you're still in Bolivia when I get back to visit my in-laws in Coch, it would be fun to talk. I didn't look up Iggy the last time because of the young friars there... wouldn't want to be a bad influence on them since I have taken "the road more traveled".

On another point, excellent website.

You're note far off! I don't know why, after a year of good health, I've been having these medical problems, but the week before last I came down with strep throat. I went to a private medical clinic, where the doctor prescribed an antibiotic. The cost of the visit? Just over US$2.50. And that included a follow-up visit for free!
